Today Wellstone asked me how my personal experience with
today's violent video games was going. I lied and said I haven't
had time to play any of the games yet. Truth is I got up an
hour early before breakfast and played some more Grand Theft
Auto before Hadassah came down to make breakfast. Luckily
I had a spreadsheet open in the background so I task switched
very quickly when I heard her footsteps.
After work I installed Rogue Spear. This game was kinda hard
for me to learn moving from the simplistic carnage of GTA
but I eventually got the hang of it. The more realistic shooting
of the game with well placed gunshots to the head being an
instant kill was intriguing. I was starting to get frustrated
with the terrorists continually shooting me until I logged
onto the Zone and joined a multiplayer game.
These kids have a whole different language in these videogames
when they're chatting in the game before launch. After I changed
my character name to Bitch Killa - I waited for the game to
begin. Apparently the person who was controlling the game
requested that I "green up". I asked what that meant and he
promptly called me a 'midget fucker' and ejected me from the
game.
I joined a different game and a more considerate young person
explained what "greening up" meant. There were 4 players in
the game including me and we commenced to playing. I peered
out of a window and was immediately killed then my teammate
died about 10 seconds later. Back in the chat area the host,
420BluntSmoker, typed "HAHAHAHAHAHA, we raped your asses!"
I told the offending youngster that rape was a serious crime
and that he offended me by using that term. He ejected me
from the game.
I went to bed very angry at 2:30am vowing to avenge my dismal
performance.
May 16, 2001
Boring day in the Senate today. Spent my lunch hour watching
some game movie previews of Max Payne on gamespot.com. Didn't
run into Wellstone, thank god. Hadassah asked what I've been
doing in my office every nite lately and that we haven't done
anything in a few days. I told her I've been rewording an
amendment to campaign financing regulation. hehe
Lieberman gives a thug the critical beat down in Kingpin
Installed Kingpin this evening. This is much more violent
than Rogue Spear and has a urban ghetto setting. There are
pimps and hos and lots of people who come up to you and ask
what your beef is. Definately a lot of foul language - I put
on my headphones. I imagine its a fairly realistic day to
day portrayal of life in those parts of town although I'd
never say it out loud. I'd recommend it as educational software
- akin to Oregon Trail. Alas my preoccupation with getting
stomped at Rogue Spear the previous nite was always in the
foreground while I was playing and rather ruined my mood so
I turned my attention back to the tactical shooter.
I hopped on the Zone and joined a online Rogue Spear game.
When I was in the chat area of the game everyone had DED before
their name. I asked why that was. Four of them said comments
like "fucking newbie" but one of them said they were part
of a clan. I asked if this clan thing was some white power
trip. I was ejected from the game.
I rejoined and called them all "punk pussy faggots" and then
quickly quit the game before they could kick me out. haha.
Went to bed and slept like a baby.
