miracle!
Anything for a Miracle
"It was a miracle!" exclaims Father Brian Jordan as he blesses
steel beams that formed a coincidental cross in the rubble of the
World Trade Center. "Who can look at it as but a sign from God?"
Crane workers then hoisted the metal up from the rubble where it
was found that the bottom of the cross had been embedded into the
decimated abdomen of 58 year old Jill Afton, who had worked at the
brokerage firm of Carr Futures and had volunteered one day a week
at a homeless shelter for the past 24 years.
"This is a symbol of faith!" he seems mesmerized, staring at the
top of the cross as it ascends into the sky with innocent human
gore still stuck to the bottom end.
Someone whispers in his ear and he follows the newsbearer. They
come upon an unscathed bible that had just been discovered by a
clean up crew. They had found the nook where it rested after bagging
up body parts.
"Yeah, it was crazy. I found the Good Book right behind this disembodied
head. I bagged it and did a double take as I saw this Bible in perfect
condition. It's nice to know God is here" Hank Turner says as he
moves aside a piece of wood revealing a severed arm and a burnt
corpse.
"I found some rosary beads in a hand next to a limbless torso a
few days ago." Hank continues. "The hand was clenched around them
and when I opened it they were like factory new. It made me happy
to think that person had Jesus in his grasp. Makes me think of that
song He's got the Whole World in His Hands." Hank waits for a crime
scene photographer to finish the area and then stoops down to bag
a severed hand that is burnt black and missing two fingers.
Unscathed rosaries - god is here!
Reports of a nun as one of the victims who had visited a friend
that fateful day have circulated. Hank verifies this. "I was talking
to some other workers on break yesterday and this one guy tells
me of it. Says when a crane hoisted a large beam off the top of
a heap of wreckage two corpses were revealed, one of a nun. He said
the body was horribly twisted, almost folded in two and was missing
half a leg. The odd thing was her habit was in perfect shape. Guy
who told me this said he dropped to his knees and started crying
because God is so beautiful."
Father Jordan speaks to several workers and asks them how their
faith has been influenced over the attack:
"You've seen the photograph with the Devil right? The image of
him formed in the debris falling from the tower?" asks Kevin Young
who is part of a construction crew. "Well, I think that Satan caused
this tragedy to happen and God is trying to even it out by putting
iron beams together. Isn't that awesome?"
"I go to church every week like a good Christian. I hear a church
a block away was untouched in this attack. That isn't a coincidence.
I mean a gay bookstore was demolished down the street but this place
of worship doesn't even have a scratch on it. Don't tell me that
God isn't at work here. I bet most of the people that died here
were queer." says another worker who wanted to remain anonymous.
