Explaining The World Trade Center To Your Children
In the events of the September 11th tragedy, many adults were left
with the arduous task of explaining the events to their children.
Experts suggest calmly reassuring the youngsters. They tell us to
explain that these were targeted attacks and to install confidence
in our children by turning off the repeated images of the towers
crumbling. In reality quite different approaches are being taken.
Timmy's new look.
God punishes sinners.
Keep balanced viewpoints.
"Timmy? That no-good bastard? I kicked his disrespectin' ass out
of MY home when he was 12. Had some smart mouth on him that boy.
Always sassin' my chick. Just cause he was studyin' geometry or
sumthin' he was thinking he's better than his old man. I told him
that if he thinks he's so smart he can pay his own damn bills. Sent
him packin I did and haven't seen him since." muses Gary Tompkins
from the Tippah County Mobile Home Estates in Mississippi.
"It was a strain for sure," says Ruth Harlinson from Arkansas.
"My child Angel is only 9 years old and quite a small frail girl.
I told her God has passed judgment and they were all sinners. I
told her that those towers resided in a city of sin and that God
punishes evil. Angel asked if there were any sinners in our small
town and I told her she better hope not else God will pass judgement
on us also. She started crying but it eventually subsided. I sent
her to bed at 5pm to pray for non-Christians".
"My kid Jack is gonna follow in his dad's footsteps. Although he's
only seven years old I feel he has quite a grasp on the world. He
can throw a football 20 yards. He's gonna make me proud," proud
Colonel Brett Smith beams. "I might have let my boy become a football
star or something like that before this tragedy. Now I tell him
his only option is to join the military. The day after the attack
we watched Top Gun and Red Dawn back to back. He loves that shit
- he wants to join the army now but I told that they unfortunately
don't let people enlist at his age. I rubbed his crew cut with my
hand. He doesn't give me any backtalk anymore. He's a good son."
